SUMMARY:TPChallenges International Conference 2024
DESCRIPTION:The upper troposphere/lower stratosphere (UTLS) region is important for global climate. Transient processes and small scale scale dynamics at the tropopause affect the distribution and gradients of radiatively active species\, aerosols and clouds which in turn may feed back on dynamics. \nThe focus of the meeting was on UTLS processes and their feedbacks involving experimental research as well as theory and modeling. SUMMARY:Kick-Off Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On 27 September 2021 we met for our official TPChange Kick-Off meeting! Not in person\, unfortunately\, but with subgroup discussions and an interactive poster session we were still able to get in contact with each other.\nAfter a short introduction and the approval of formals\, we talked about a common data management ground. Each project presented a poster in the following session and in the late afternoon the three Research Areas A/B/C met in order to plan collaborations within the first year. After that we talked about how the individual projects come together in the central activities: synthesis of observational data and synthesis of modelling.\nA total of about sixty people joined the meeting\, among them about twenty new PhD students and Postdocs. \nThe meeting took place at www.gather.town. \n(Meeting material)

SUMMARY:Positive funding decision for TPChange!
DESCRIPTION:The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved the funding of TRR 301 “The Tropopause Region in a Changing Atmosphere” with around EUR 12 million. For the next four years (2021-2025) we will study this fascinating region of the atmosphere with a wide range of methods – from laboratory and wind tunnel to field measurements\, complex theoretical projects especially with aerosol-chemical and dynamical topics as well as their embedment in Earth system modelling on different scales. \nPress release of JGU Mainz \nPress release of DFG
